It’s a slow start today. We decided to spend another day at Cape Jaffa as we are quite sheltered here from the strong winds that have sprung up this morning.
After breakfast we visit Kingston SE, quite a large town on the coast and we take advantage of local shops to stock up on supplies. A walk along the jetty is worthwhile as is a visit to the beach, another that is not inundated with 4WD’s.
While the Kingston visitor centre is small, the staff provided some good tips and as a result we travelled through the Bernoulli Conservation Park and visited the Cape Jaffa Lighthouse Cottage ruins. The beach was quiet except for 19 Musk Ducks.
There is an interesting story regarding the reef that the Cape Jaffa lighthouse protects. A ship was heading from Adelaide to Melbourne, and ran aground on the Margaret Brock reef, on the high tide they realised they had no hope of floating off, so the occupants, some 46 adults and 5 children made it to shore and then over 11 days walked back to Adelaide.
