Girraween- 1 – 3 Aug 2026

On our return journey home we drop into Girraween National Park for 2 nights.

Girraween National Park is a Granite landscape wonderland located in Queensland’s Granite Belt near the New South Wales border, is one of Australia’s most striking natural landscapes. Known for its dramatic granite outcrops, balancing boulders, seasonal wildflowers and crystal‑clear creeks, Girraween offers a rare blend of rugged beauty and ecological richness.

Girraween’s defining feature is its massive granite formations—towering domes, precariously balanced boulders and sculpted arches that create a surreal, almost otherworldly terrain. Trails such as The Pyramid and Granite Arch lead visitors through these geological wonders, offering panoramic views across the park’s rugged skyline.

Clear-running streams like Bald Rock Creek weave through the landscape, forming tranquil waterholes that contrast beautifully with the stark granite.

Golden wattles splashed colour over the boulder strewn bushland.

Wildlife thrives here too. We sighted superb fairy-wrens, yellow‑faced honeyeaters, red‑necked wallabies, brush‑tailed possums and many other bird species.

The newly upgraded Girraween Visitor Precinct features ample parking, modern amenities and an architecturally designed information centre with interactive displays. qld.gov.au

Popular walking tracks include:

  • Bald Rock Creek Circuit — gentle, scenic and family-friendly
  • Mount Norman Peak Trail — challenging with rewarding summit views
  • The Sphinx and Turtle Rock — iconic granite formations

Camping options range from tent sites to remote bush camps, giving visitors flexibility in how they experience the park’s wilderness.
