High Country, ranges, hills and desert. 24 Aug 2023

A strong cold breeze greets us in the morning but as the sun rises we start to warm up. Plenty of birds about and the wattle in its varied species is in flower.

The country along the entire granite belt looks dry, though plenty of creeks have water and many are flowing, not sure if it’s the winter frosts has killed off the grass. We stop at Glen Innes for lunch then onto our camp at a Hipcamp, a 200 acre farm property outside Tamworth called Hillside Farm. The owner takes us for a drive up to the top of her property, we get a great view of the valley that the Peel River meanders through and the surrounding mountains for a picturesque backdrop.

We enjoy dinner around a camp fire, we are joined by the farm dog who enjoys taking over one of our chairs at the fire. Crinia signifera and Litoria peronii, Emerald Spotted treefrog, are calling into the night..
