Day 40 – Katherine – Kadadu
Our return trip was always flexible and our thirst for adventure has not been quelled we are heading for Kadadu. No emails, no mobile phones, big horizons what bliss.
We setup camp at Gunlom and walk 1km up to the top of the falls for a swim and then another swim on the return trip at the plunge pool. Jawoyn people the traditional owners of this land say you shouldn’t swim at the plunge pool unless you introduce yourself to their creation ancestor Bolung. Given you can’t swim at many places in Kakadu because of saltwater crocodiles and it gets hot during the day I say he gets to meet a lot of people.
At 7.30 at night we watched an open air presentation by one of the local rangers who talked about the local area and indigenous people and how they and the rangers manage Kakadu. It was all interesting.
The road in was dirt but easy if driven with care as some rough sections required slow going.
