Day 39 – Gregory National Park – Katherine

Day 39 – Gregory National Park – Katherine

We take an early walk down to the river and watch a parade of Crimson, Double Bar and Long/tailed finches drinking and bathing. There are Grey-crowned Babblers chasing all and sundry away as they go about building a nest, a real communal effort.

We travel South along the Humbert Track stopping at Figtree Valley lookout to take photographs.

The track is relatively easy but it certainly gets rough and rocky in some sections. The Humbert River crossing particularly raised one’s level of apprehension given the steep slope and rocky terrain. After that crossing the rest of the track was very much a doddle – it took us over 4 hours to travel 56 kilometers.

We then travel up through the Jasper Gorge back to the main highway.

We reach Katherine after a long day of driving and decide to stay in a motel, well it is our wedding anniversary tomorrow. A clean flushing toilet and hot shower, how much we take for granted some of life’s simple luxuries.
