Day 38 – Kununuura – Gregory National Parks

A day of mixed emotions. We head East homeward bound sadly leaving our friend Margie and the Kimberly but happily a day closer to family and friends. 27 days of Kimberly adventure.

We refuel at Timber Creek and then drive South through Gregory National Park to Bullita Camp ground. We detour a little to see the Limestone Gorge and old Bullita Homestead. The pure white Calcite Flow, Tufa Dams and stromatolite (prehistoric simple life forms) fossils were interesting geological features.

The landscape is where semi-arid transitions into sub-tropical, its very dry, however, the East Baines River has plenty of water in it but saltwater crocodiles reside and prevent swimming. The consolation is that if you are a recreational fisher you can catch Barramundi.

The Aboriginal and European history is rich and interesting as is the geology; the people who lived and live here are certainly tough and resilient. The NT parks display tells their stories very well.
