Western Australia adventure – 20 October 2025

We have continued northward enjoying the scenery. Our first stop today is Bathurst, where we have early lunch and explore the educational and interesting “Australian Fossil and Mineral Museum”. If you are a geologist at heart you will love this place, exceptionally good for both children and adults. Much of the collection was donated by Warren Somerville who recognised the importance of his collection for future generations to enjoy.

We especially enjoyed the critical mineral display, showing and discussing how important they are to our transition to renewable energy and more ecologically sustainable practices. The exhibits showed a very interesting perspective to illustrate how important these minerals are and how they contribute to our current lifestyle.

Bathurst has plenty of historic buildings to explore. There is also plenty of historical subjects to follow around the city, such as the Chinese community who were significant positive contributors to the success of the region despite ignorant racists making life hard for them. The signage around the town explores the Chinese community life and contributions.

We are camped at the Mudgee Showgrounds tonight, good facilities and plenty of room. Walking distance to dinner.
