We are on the move slowly, heading north making our way to Port Lincoln. We stayed at the Auburn Showground campground, a wonderful, peaceful, well set up site with very friendly staff. We must say the S.A. Campsites at the Adelaide, Strathalbyn and Auburn Showground campgrounds are standouts for good campsites and great staff.
We wake to a rural landscape nestled in a small grove of trees and bushes, bush birds and livestock stir on the first sign of sunlight. We top up with water, then fuel up and have coffee at the Velvet & Willow Wines – Cellar Door, Cafe and Pantry, a cafe within a historic garden in the middle of the Auburn township.
Coffee finished it is northbound again traveling less travelled roads through a rural cropping landscape, picturesque, and many shades of brown as the crops have been harvested, and no new ones planted. They are waiting for the winter rains. The many country towns with their well cared for historic old homes makes the drive very appealing and worth doing many times.
Camp tonight is in on Mambray Creek located in S.A. Mount Remarkable National Park. Interesting geology and wildlife, what a great combination. The river red gums are some of the best you will find in the state.
Water is still trickling in the creek, fed by springs, making this area a haven for wildlife. Sometimes the creek disappears under sand and river polished stone reappearing where the channel is deeper.
We had a goanna (dinosaur) inspecting 21st century technology (Starlink).
The facilities at this national park are great, hot showers, clean facilities and well spaced campgrounds.
The day is finished watching the full moon rise over Mt Remarkable.
