Time to do some shopping then off to explore Little Dip Conservation Park. This park supports a lot of 4WD tracks, and, this weekend, it seems a lot of 4WDrivers. While great for recreation it is probably the major cause for the absence of shoreline bird species.
The coastline is rugged, comprised of sandy beaches and rugged gnarled limestone cliffs and rocky ledges, it is very beautiful. The melaleuca are in flower, and the showy white bottle brush flowers are attractive to insects and birdlife. Seaweed and kelp have accumulated on the beach in parts and they are decaying or fermenting, as the smell is sweetly pungent.
We drop in and have a look at Freshwater Lake then head to Robe to have lunch on the shoreline under the shade of old age Norfolk Pines, the water is a glorious mix hue of blues.
Our day finishes with a walk along Long Beach at sunset, the colours of the southern Australian skies are soft and it makes a wonderful photographic subject. The beach is very popular and accessible by foot traffic and 4WD. We did find a tiny little bit of the 12km beach set aside for Hooded Plover, Thinornis cucullatus listed as vulnerable. Council has being doing their bit to protect them, there is a fenced area and small shelters along other parts of the beach, everyone else needs to assist by staying away from them.
