Hervey Bay to Mundubbera – October

Today we are visited by a local who dropped off the free local paper, while last night the caretaker of the showground came by and chatted, all very friendly and helpful. If you want a spacious campsite with clean amenities the Mundubbera Showground is a good spot to stop. It’s close to town and the towns folk are very friendly.

We have a look at the Mundubberra Historical museum. The caretaker was very friendly and helpful and the museum was excellent, there is plenty there to keep a varied historical palette interested. We found an old glass babies bottle, it must have been hand blown. There was a painting on ironwork with a timber frame.

We travel south along the Burnett Highway enjoying an early lunch at Gayndah, and we stopped at the upside down railway bridge, never seen a bridge built like this. There is also a great view of the Burnett River from here.

We drive down the Murgon Kilcoy Road to Jimna and then across to our camp at Booloumba Creek in the Conondale National Park via Sunday Creek Road, both are chiefly gravel , devoid of traffic, great views and have interesting geological features.
