Cooktown and back 9 July 2023

We continue north wandering along the minor roads through cane paddocks and rain forest to Eubenangee Swamp, the walk to the lookout over this wetland is worth it. It is an extensive wetland and the wildlife is bountiful, waterbirds, rainforest species and no doubt a crocodile lying in the depths of the deep pools. Azure kingfisher and Great-billed Heron were nice finds.

It’s then to the Boulders at Babinda for a swim. We both worked in Babinda when living in Innisfail, it’s a beautiful part of the world. The water is cool and fresh and crystal clear.

We do some last shopping in Cairns, travel across the Daintree River on the ferry then to lovely grounds at Cape Trib Camping. This is a wonderfully beautiful part of the world where rainforest meets sea, the varied and unique plant life is extraordinary. We are having pizza in the rainforest near the sea, yum.
