NSW – VIC – SA – QLD – Yarram to Lorne

The morning starts with misty rain, and it’s about 6°C. We make our way to Wilsons Promontory and the rain increases. Despite the rain, the wildlife and some wildflowers are out. We stop at the cafeteria at the Promontory for warm drink while having a chat with the manager who has run a number of facilities in the Kimberley region, which we have visited. A common theme with services associated with the tourist industry is the shortage of staff, here is no different. The Promontory is a mixture of rocky hills, sand dunes, coastal scrub and wetlands a place worth visiting when the sun is shining.

It is then onto Sorrento to catch the ferry to Queenscliff this saves a lot of time avoiding Melbourne. Once we reach land we travel the Great Ocean Road to Lorne. We travelled this road about 25 years ago it is a lot more developed now. We stop to take photos at a number of lookouts, still a beautiful coastal landscape.

At Lorne we walk around the Erskine River mouth and the historic swing bridge. A visit to the jetty where the locals are catching garfish.

Dinner is at Ipsos, Greek food is always good and this restaurant is exceptional.
