It is a beautiful sunny clear sky we wake up to, 5° C but no wind. We head westward along the great ocean road, the further west we go the less development and more picturesque the landscape becomes. The morning light creates long shadows and stark contrasts when they encounter the mountains which plunge into the sea. The fast flowing creeks that emerge from narrow gorges and spill onto the sandy coves are like small isolated worlds squeezed in between towering hills, all are worthy of exploration.

A coffee break at Appollo Bay, still plenty of tourists and many are international. We continue onto Cape Otway, the forested mountains and farmland really make this region a delight to travel through. While the Cape Otway Lightstation is closed we take a walk to get a glimpse of this famous facility. There are wildflowers and plenty of evidence of animals activity. The WWII history was interesting and we once again query why such history has been left out of school education.

We take many opportunities to view the sea stack features that dot this coastal landscape. The 12 apostles have been battered by the Southern ocean waves and some have succumbed to the elements but those that remain are still stunning.

We continue onto Warrnambool to catchup with family spending time with them from the afternoon into the evening, it’s a great way to finish a lovely day.
