We say bye to Margie and the boabs for another year and start our next adventure : )
We venture down the Duncan Road. This is a road that runs South off the Victoria Highway to Katherine, it runs between Gregory National Park and Lake Argyle / Purnululu National Park. It’s a mixture of Savannah woodland and grassland that covers limestone ridges and fragmented plateaus and plains. We travel half the day and see two vehicles and plenty of cattle, horses, camels and kangaroos. Most of the water courses we cross run into Lake Argyle, most are dry, though some still have large pools of water. The Behm and Negri River have water.
The Duncan is not a well trodden track by grey nomads or holiday makers, no services, only cattle stations and aboriginal communities. Some locals say its like the Gibb River Road as it use to be many years ago, bush camping only. Next fuel stop is over 500km away, the truck has a range of 1000km.
We opt to camp on top of an escarpment overlooking a deep gorge about 5 kms off the road. Its a rough track in but its worth it. It’s just us, not a sole, not a sound.
We camp under the stars. The night sky is brilliant. Micro bats and colourful moths are weaving around the torch light. It promises to be a chilly night.
