We have left Greenock, travelling north to the Bendleby Ranges. A privately owned sheep station that allows camping and the use of the 4WD tracks that traverse these rugged hills.
We resupplied at Clare, a busy and friendly regional centre that caters for the travellers very well.
On arrival at Bendleby we register with the owners at their office then drive to our campsite where we setup and then make a short drive up a ridge line to view the sunset, a great 360° panoramic view of the Flinders Ranges in the distance and the Hungry and Bendleby Ranges nearby.
Homemade pizza tonight by a warm fire under one of the best night skies we have seen. Night birds are calling but it’s chiefly quiet and not even a breeze. The owner drops in to say hello, very friendly and engaging, the facilities here are good and campsites spacious and spread out.
The next day we are checking out the 4WD tracks – great tracks, great views. There is a lot of history in these hills, many old ruins and infrastructure belonging to yesteryear.
We are back at camp in the late afternoon and preparing for a good fire and a roast in the camp oven for dinner. Clear skies today so we expect another brilliant night sky.
