We are on the road again, our destination is Western Australia via Strathalbyn, South Australia. Several plans created with the aim to circumnavigate the wet weather and flooding. Plan C was head to Bollon via the Moonie highway it has paid off, while countryside is awash with water and most of the creeks have some water in them, the road was fair and dry and the day ended with blue sky and a warm breeze.
We made a few stops on the way out. Lunch at an old haunt in Dalby the Urban Paddock, then on the bank of the Balonne River at St George. Water is running well through the Moonie River and the Balonne, it is flowing particularly well through the Jack Taylor weir on the edge of town in St George. Plenty of birdlife particularly at the small weir at Bollon.
Our camp is on the banks of the Wallam Creek at Bollon, a donation camp and a beautiful spot. Free showers and facilities, The area is important to indigenous people. We are having dinner at the Bollon Hotel. The sun is setting and we can hear Grey-Shrike Thrush, Willy Wagtails, Friar birds, Sacred Kingfishers, Magpie Larks, galahs, parrots, honeyeaters, and Welcome Swallows calling from the creek.
After sunset a chorus of varied and many frogs start up.
