The morning is clear and cool, no rain in this beautiful part of the world. We have breakfast in town at Eurolicious and had a look along the coastline. It is a very pretty place. We watch a large number of seals sunning themselves on the ocean surface, flippers held vertically in the air gives the appearance they are waving to us land lovers.
We caught up with new friends in the hinterland, the evidence of the recent fires is everywhere to see, it must have been terrifying for those caught in the fire defending their properties. Despite the intensity of the fire, new epicormic growth has enabled the trees to not only survive but thrive. Wildlife can be found, large healthy Grey Kangaroos are readily seen as are Swamp Wallabies, we enjoy the young White-bellied Sea Eagle gliding above the ridge lines.
It’s then southwards along the Bermagui Tathra road, the drive is scenic, the wooden bridges narrow and rattling are a novelty for us, the inlets and creeks provide plenty of opportunities to explore. An area worth returning to another time to explore more thoroughly. We enjoyed the southward journey through the heavily timbered ranges that stretched to the horizon.
It is twilight as we drive into Marlo, located on the mouth of the Snowy River. We drop our bags into our hut and then off to the local hotel for dinner. Despite it being the only place to provide dinner the food is good, abundant and the local crowd lively.
