It’s a relaxed start to the day, the morning is mild and we have clear skies. We do a bird count achieving an unusual but exciting sighting of a Pink Cockatoo.
Morning tea is at Cooladdi road house, the “Fox Trap’ where we chat to the manager about local events and gossip. Always great value chatting with the locals, giving you valuable road and weather reports. Interesting to note the locals have cleaned out the feral goats, which can ravage the landscape and native vegetation.
We pass over the Paroo River and stop at the Rick ‘Milo” Milosevic memorial. It’s great to see all the creeks and waterways with some water. Birdlife is also looking pretty good with flocks of Budgerigars, wood swallows, crested and spinifex pigeons.
We have lunch on the Barcoo River just outside Quilpie. The landscape is looking so healthy, grass covers the ground as far as the eye can see and the shrubs and trees look healthy. At our lunch stop we come across a small flock of feral chooks or perhaps run aways from nearby Quilpie. The erosive force of flood water evident to see on the trees where their roots are exposed.
We continue west and camp tonight at our favourite stopover on the Cooper’s Creek not far from Windorah. We have had a few drops of rain but our camp fire is still blazong.
