Mitchell Plateau – Day 17

It was a warm night with a small reprieve early in the morning till sunrise. Micro bats are still flying about as the sun rays start break up the night.

It begins to warm up quickly so we make for one on the main aboriginal art sites for a look and swim. There are fellow travellers never far away and we meet a Swiss couple who resigned from work to travel around Australia for 12 months.

The art is chiefly Gwion Gwion, it’s very fine art obviously painted by a talented person/s. We managed to also get a few photographs of frogs, surprisingly still out hunting, and lizards. A Mertons Waterdragon is patrolling the shallows, watch out frogs.

We make our way back to camp stopping at Little Merton Falls. Here you can walk underneath the falls, it’s a spectacular scene. The figs are in fruit, the clumps of green, yellow and orange fruit makes for a colourful display.  We look at a few more aboriginal art sites then climb to the top of the falls and have another swim. It’s like an infinity pool, you gaze over the falls to the Kimberley expanse.

Late lunch at camp. Rest for an hour. We make a campfire tonight, it’s damper with our dinner tonight.
