We are leaving Derby today and heading North along the Gibb River Road. Reception will likely not happen until we re-appear in about 2 weeks.

We stop at Imintji for fuel then travel onto Charnley River Station. When we arrive it’s a quick lunch then off to Donkey Pool for a swim. Blue sky, warm, dry and a cold clear water hole, a nice way to relax at the end of the drive.

Plenty of agile wallabies, birds and native fish. Charnley River station is a 300,000 hectare working cattle property but 139,000 hectares is set aside as a sanctuary and managed by Australian Wildlife Conservancy. Even though the remainder is for cattle production it is shared with wildlife. The camping part of the station is very well organised with great amenities and a nice campground along a creek bank. The country is very appealing, open woodland and grassland with riparian corridors and rocky outcrops, and while the wet season apparently hasn’t been great this year the station does look good for wildlife and cattle.
