Day 32

Day 32 – Broome – James Price Point – Cape Leveque

We said fare-well to Annie at Broome Airport who is flying back East via Perth and Margie drove North early this morning back to Kununurra. We will miss our team of travellers, hoping to catchup with Margie again in a few days at Purnululu. We head on North to Cape Leveque.

After traveling the North West one really begins to appreciate the quality and strength of the individuals who provide health services to the local communities. When they say they are just going down the road that equates to 200km. Margie is traveling 1,100km today and in a week or two turns around and heads South and does about the same again as she visits Aboriginal communities. I don’t think I will ever complain about a 50 minute train trip into work ever again.

James Price Point, the red cliffs and azure ocean do make this place special. Beach Curlew, Brahminy Kite and small shorebirds just a few of the species sighted. Protesters against the proposed Gas Hub are camped near and around the Point. Hoping they are successful in protecting this wild area from the clutches of greed; only greed could justify developing this site.

We visit Beagle Bay, the home of the Nyul Nyul people and the Sacred Heart church decorated with Mother Pearl, cowries, volutes and olive shells.

Stop for the day on the shores of Curlew Bay near the tip of Dampier Peninsula.
