Western Australia adventure – 1 September 2025

Another beautiful morning, so after breakfast and packing up we go for another walk through the Frankland River Wildflower Walk taking plenty of flower photos.

We continue westward driving back roads where possible and stopping along the way to peruse bushland areas near the road, they can be full of wonderful flowering surprises.

We have lunch at the RAMSAR listed Lake Muir, plenty of water running into this watery ecosystem and quite a few Black Swans. The preservation of this area is a good news story where science guided the recognition by the community of the need to address salinity issues through preservation of wetland ecosystems. We see Carnaby Cockatoos and Western Rosellas. There is a boardwalk that leads to a bird hide and observation platform.

Camp tonight is amongst the big trees. The Big Brook Arboretum campground supports exotic and native trees, so we are sleeping amongst the giants tonight. The creek is crystal clear and the creek floor and subsurface water plants are readily visible. Plenty of Western Rosellas and Purple-crowned Lorikeet flying about.

On Unicup Road near Muir Highway, a 10 minute stop for a wildflower walk.
