Western Australia adventure – 2 September 2025

We had light rain overnight but we wake to light cloud, then blue sky and a chorus of bird song, the Purple-crowned Lorikeets are prevalent.

We choose to travel the Karri Explorer track, a trek along gravel and bitumen roads through splendid Karri and Jarrah forests. Plenty of places to stop and enjoy the forest and wildlife. The lorikeets along the track were particularly busy and noisy. We see a daddy emu with very young chicks on the track.

As is the case with many conservation parks it was the effort of a few that preserved iconic environmental values for the many. The Giblett is one example.

We stop at Nannup for the night, an interesting town, friendly, beautiful gardens and parks, some great eateries and produce stores. The Splendid Fairy-wren came to visit at the Blackwood Cafe. Paul the mechanic at P & F Martin Mechanical, was generous with time and help.
