Dorrigo is cool with a cold wind blowing but there is no rain. We head over to the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service Skywalk lookout, the winter sky produces some nice soft light over the escarpment and valleys below.
From Dorrigo we travel down Waterfall Way, road works and nice views are around every corner. We then travel the back blocks of Bellingen and find road damage and detours too extensive and we back track to Bellingen and then onto the M1. That said the drive was nice and the creek we followed was crystal clear. Its a quick stop in Bellengen then south along the M1 after a few tricky manoeuvres. While M1 is in the category of not too exciting it enables us to move south quickly and the Wattle bloom is amazing and beautiful.
We stop at South West Rocks and visit the Trial Bay Gaol. The gaol is full of sad tales and blunders based upon fear and mans desire to control the environment. The breakwater can be described as a marine elephant, neither finished nor working. The incarceration of men simply because of the origin of birth was also pretty sad. From top of the cliffs the sea is rough and cold. It’s important to note that the kangaroos own the town and the gaol and a more relaxed group of citizens you will never meet. On the way in and out of the South West Rocks we follow the Macleay River.
Tonight on our 35th wedding anniversary we stop at Bulahdelah, a small town off the highway and we are having dinner at the local bowls club.
