We are up early and drive along the Albany waterfront, a stop at the replica of the Brig Amity, she made a perilous 6 week journey from Sydney to King George Sound to establish the first European settlement on the west coast of Australia. We then head off to The Gap to walk the boardwalk that sits over a gap between two rock ledges, it’s a must see site. We are the only ones there but I’d imagine in peak season it would be crowded. The rugged coastline and blues of the ocean crashing into the rocks makes for another memorable time.

We wander off the main road dropping down to the lookout over Shelley Beach, Peaceful Cove, Conspicuous Cliffs and walk the Treetop Walk amongst the Giants. The forests are made up of giant eucalypts, eucalyptus jacksonii bordering lush green farmland and heathlands the area is worthy of several days to explore.

We stop at Denmark for coffee. We find a dozen Pied-oyster catchers in the local park with seagulls and an Intermediate Egret, we’ve never seen that before.

The Valley of the Giants Tree Top Walks is very special, you walk gradually along a suspended boardwalk to 40 metres high to enjoy a birds eye view of life in the canopy of the forest giants.

Camp tonight is Walpole, we are sitting enjoying the view over the Nornalup Inlet. Nornalup means ‘place of the Norne’, Black Snake.
