After a few spots of rain over night we decided to get going early.
The challenge is, fellow travellers love to pop over and talk about ours/their travels, where have you been, what was the track like, adventures and mis-adventures, what sort of truck do you have? So we don’t actually get going until 9am, but it doesn’t matter it’s a holiday.
Heading North West means we seem to be heading away from the rain and cold. Not that it is cold!
We fuel at Alice Springs, also at Tilmouth Crossing and at the aboriginal community at Yuendemu. The community can supply groceries, fuel and other essential items. Lots of fuel stops, because sometimes the next fuel stop may not be open, or may not have your particular brand of fuel, it can be a long way till you find another one.
The Tanami has a number of bitumen sections now, more dirt than bitumen but it’s welcome to give the shockers on the truck a rest. In general the Tanami is a great gravel road.
The desert if you can call it a desert is alive with small bush birds. There are still native flowers to be found despite it still being hot and dry.
We pass the Newmont Gold mine and travel a little further finding a great spot to rest for the night. Thanks to the mine we can tap into the 3G network.
Track (20/05/2015 9:03:26am) Alice Springs to Granites in Explorer. You can view a map of it on Hema Explorer Cloud.
