Happy Birthday to Margaret : )
We head off for Lake Argyle for the day, taking a tour on the lake retuning at sunset.
…
Lake Argyle is huge. We visit islands that were once extensive rocky outcrops and hills to look at Zebra Rock and wildlife. Short-eared rock wallabies are relatively common and curious about our presence.
Freshwater crocodiles, birdlife and fish are abundant. While we dangle our hand full of bread over the side of the boat Archerfish try knock the bread out off the grip of our fingers with a squirt of water. We watch a juvenile white-bellied sea eagle stir up the water birds, hundreds of water birds take to the air. The scenery varies between rocky crags to low lying freshwater wetlands.
A swim in the lake before sunset was refreshing.
We watch a brilliant sunset over lake Argyle only to be surpassed a few minutes later by a rising red full moon over the water. When driving home in the moonlight the extensive lines of fire rising up over ranges was also a spectacle. Fires are common this time of year, early fires leaving some understory for wildlife to survive.
Dinner at the Pump House restaurant finished the day off nicely.
