Day 17

Day 17 – Mitchelle Falls / Plateau

Walked to the Mitchell Falls with Margie. Marg and Annie to take chopper flight down and back the next day. Walked through some beautiful country, love the Savannah and Riparian Rainforest. Stopped at waterholes and examined the Aboriginal ‘Rock Art’, absolutely amazing and sophisticated more mind blowing when you think we were sitting in the same place the artist did some 17,000 + years ago.

Walked onto the falls. As with anything in the Kimberly it was huge. The waterfall was still thundering months after the wet season. Swimming near the falls would be a fateful decision but there were plenty of places that could be found to getaway from the growing heat of the day. Chopper fly in and out which is a nuisance but given the country and heat few could enjoy the venture to the falls unless they could overcome the task of walking in and back as we did.

Highlight was walking behind the base of a waterfall as it tumbled into a deep pool below, a great place also for a swim.
