Day 18 – Mitchell Falls
Early start to the Mitchell Falls with Marg. The combination of a cool morning and morning light makes for a pleasant walk through open woodland and riparian rainforest. Meet Margie and Annie who fly in by chopper and we head off to good vantage point to photograph 1st, 2nd and 3rd falls. Marg and Annie then take chopper flight over falls and return to camp while Margie and me press on for several kilometers upstream along the Mitchell River. The day warmed up fast and the rocky country saps you dry. However, the Aboriginal Rock painting and sites are the best I have ever seen. Not a tourist or other soul in sight, Aboriginal sites buried in a labyrinth of stone, woodland and Spinifex. One could spend months exploring this place and still find something new each say. An amazing variety of fruiting native plants can be found. Its a place worthy protecting for generations to enjoy and appreciate.
