Day 8

The obligatory crossing of the Roper River

Day 8 – Roper River to Mataranka.

We believe we saw the meteorological event called a ‘morning glory’ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morning_Glory_cloud

Tea and scones at Mataranka.

Swim in the Roper River, apparently no Crocodiles preset. A bath at the hot springs at Mataranka and visited replica of Elsey Station – as in Jeannie Gunn author of ‘We of the Never Never’. Named so because poor Jeannie could “Never Never” find a balley thing.’

Interestingly water just pours out of the ground in this country, its source is the Barkly Tableland via underground aquifers (hundreds of kilometres)

The night quiet only interrupted by occasional call from wild donkey or cattle and the usual dingoes.
