Western Australia adventure – 20 August 2025

We camp at Nambung station, a crop and cattle property accomodating travellers like ourselves. Friendly, well with good facilities and despite the torrential downpour over night we were warm and comfortable in our camper trailer. It rained so hard it felt like someone was turning a hose onto the roof at full bore. Water everywhere.

In the morning the weather broke up into drifting storm clouds and we were able to have breakfast in the sun and make our way back to the coast stopping at the Banksia Reserve. Many orchids and Sundews and reminders about important species, such as the Carnaby Cockatoo and the need for everyone to do their bit to stop the spread of Phytophthora Dieback.

We stop at Julian Bay for a short break then onto Sandy Cape Recreation Park to setup camp. It always pays to visit the local Information Centre to take advantage of local knowledge and Jurian Bay Information Centre was excellent. We took their advice and drove the circuit loop through Lesueur National Park, what spectacular flowers and landscapes we found. If there is a god whoever he, she or they are blessed W.A. with beautiful and unique flora. We encounter thundery showers all day but they only enhance the landscape.

We made it back to camp just before sunset. This is an excellent camping area, basic facilities but it is right next to the beach.
