Today we visit Burnabbie to undertake a bird survey and collect firewood, we are outside the park in unallocated state land. We explore along the Burnabbie – Madura Pass track, it traverses east – west along the foot of the escarpment. The escarpment is the continuation of the Bunda Cliffs that travels inland in a big arc then back to the coast to meet the Baxter cliffs at Twilight Cove. The landscape between the escarpment and the coastline is known as the Roe Plain. The vegetation is chiefly a mix of Bluebush and Mallee, one dominating the other but both supporting abundant birdlife, on the Bluebush we find plenty of Western Grey Kangaroos, Macropus fuliginosus and we saw one dingo. We identify rock caves for later exploration. There was time to visit a previously explored historical water infrastructure used during the colonial telegraph period and historical sheep station, which is now in ruins. We make a beeline for home as more rain and strong wind on the way.
