Western Australia adventure – 20 May 2025

We’ve had a few cool mornings, 1.6 degrees this morning, it should at least help with reducing the mouse numbers.

At times we have to pick up people from the escarpment so this provides an opportunity to do some track maintenance, bird surveys and do a little exploring. A pair of Wedgetail eagles are taking advantage of the southerly wind blowing up the escarpment and which is creating a perfect updraft for our feathered friends. The same wind is blowing salt spray inland, which is quite visible from the escarpment. At this point you can note there is mallee with blue-grey leaves and dark green leaves. Many are about to flower here and there are also shrubs in flower.

Later in the day we retrieve our camera traps while enjoying the landscape at the same time. Our cameras catch a feral cat on the prowl.

The track to base.
At the lookout, looking towards a huge dune in the east. The sign is our creation.
