Great Australia Bight – Cliffs, sand, mallee and whales. 22 August 2024

We are greeted by another beautiful morning, and taking photos at this time can produce interesting results, such as giant foot lying on its side, some mystical creatures still asleep at dawn.

Today we explored the East Track, a mixture of melaleuca and mallee woodland that is holding back a tsunami of pure white sand. This system of dunes stretches out to the east just inland from the coast. It’s a moving system and revegetation is required to stop its progress.

Our exploration is very successful as we find tracks of a wombat it will be the first ever seen on the Eyre Sandpatch since current team memories, so that’s a long time ago.

Our last venture for the day took us to Kanidal beach at close to sunset.

We have wombats
Can you see the base?
