2020 trip – day 5 – Birdsville – Clayton River, Birdsville Track

It was 0.9 degrees this morning, and it took a while for truck and occupants to get moving.

We head South pass the Qld Police border check point and then head south down the Birdsville Track. Not much traffic but plenty of small herds of cattle, we can hear choppers calling over the radio as they muster cattle. We stop here and there, looking at small wetlands created by running bores, flood boats, martian like landscapes and the Mungerannie Hotel, the later we have a cold drink and chat with the publican. The hotel is worth stopping at, it provides fuel and accommodation including camping. The birdlife is interesting with some really great finds to be had if you are lucky.

We continue onto our campsite which is on the banks of the Clayton River. The nearby homestead has provided good facilities, which includes flushing toilets, shower and bore fed open air spa. A peaceful night again under a big bright sky.
