We have a leisurely start enjoying the excellent camp kitchen facilities at Willow Springs to make breakfast. It’s then off to Wilpena Pound for fuel and supplies then Northwards along the Wirrealpa Road.
We stop to look at some very unusual landscapes, rocky hills with what looks like a sand blow coming out of the top of it, it’s an important site to the indigenous people, it’s then onto Arkaroola, which is one of Australia’s scenic gems.
Arkaroola has good facilties, after booking in we are off to the laundry to wash a weeks worth of dirty dusty clothes, they could almost walk there by themselves. A yellow footed rock wallaby bounds across our path.
Rugged mountains surround the camp it is a great spot to visit and rest, if you like walks or 4WD tracks you can find them here. The area is rich in wildlife and geological, mining and pastoral history. Some artefacts from geo-thermal projects.
We are having dinner at the restaurant so we ponder on our journey back into Queensland weaving between flooding rains and flooded plains.
