We travel from our camp to Ebor Falls, there are a couple of great lookouts and a walk along the escarpment that takes us from the Upper Falls to the Lower Falls, rugged heavily forested country with deep gorges, bird life is prevalent and suprisingly wildflowers are out.
From Ebor Falls we head to the Point Lookout and drive along the Styx River forest drive, it’s a dirt road and very pretty.
We meet up with the Kempsey Armidale road taking time to look at old forests huts and the Styx River. We lunch at the Akers creek lookout. We have seen very few people on these back roads.
We make our way to Armidale and then down the Thunderbolt Way, it’s very steep in sections, as we drop down the escarpment from the tablelands.
A stop at Gloucester then cruise into camp just at the end of twilight. We have the campsite to ourselves, so a fire under the night sky with plenty of stars peering through the tall timber canopy.
