After some minor electrical repairs we made a fast trip down the highway to the Leopold Downs Rd after refueling at Fitzroy Crossing.
A stop at Tunnel Creek is a must. This is a long cave with flowing creek below the ancient Devonian reef. This reef is a distinctive and stunning range of limestone that rises above the plain. At Tunnel Creek you can walk for quite some distance through the cave. In parts the roof has collapsed but mostly you need a torch to walk through the cave. There are fish in stream and micro bats occupy crevices in the ceiling.
We turn South to drive into Mornington Wilderness camp. It’s a great trip. You could land a jumbo on some stretches of dirt others meander through groves of Boab trees or through creeks still running.
Camp is nestled along Annie Creek in the scrub. Dinner involved a walk along a bush track to an open air restaurant. There are treats in life worth searching out and finding.
