Charnley River Station to Drysdale River Station – Day 15

A slow start to the day on Charnley River Station. A leisurely simple breakfast then a short trip to the Donkey Waterhole for a swim. Despite the name these pools are clear, full of lillies and fish, they are beautiful: the upper waterhole has a small waterfall and then it’s deep, it’s a great place for a swim. There is some aboriginal art and again there is plenty of bird life.

We have a late lunch and we head off to Mt Barnett hoping to catchup with nursing friends at Kupungurri community but they are smart and are swimming at Manning Falls so we refuel, grab an ice cream and head for Drysdale River Station.

Our travel time is slowed by cattle and corrigations and we drive into darkness, not a smart move but we do get to witness a spectacular fire as we drive into the station about 30 minutes after sunset. Walls of fire are advancing through the savannah, it’s impressive, a good reason to aim to camp at Drysdale Station and not in the bush off the road.

We enjoy a few wines and yarns. Dingoes are howling and an occasional curlew can  be heard. Life is travelling at an increasingly slower pace. Hot showers a real bonus; great amenities at Drysdale. We again sleep under the stars.
