Greece 2014

Well we are heading to Innaminka via Greece. 3 weeks in Greece then back home hop in the truck and head West again.

The flight to Athens via Dubai was long and numbing, and I don’t mean mind numbing.

However, now in Athens it’s well worth the trip. Caught the train from the airport into Athens. Good trip, plenty of people use it and no shortage of evidence to show some are economically struggling.

We have only caught a glimpse of the ancient ruins and a close up of the more recent ones. The hotel is basic but makes a good home for a few days while we get our bearings. The restaurant on top of the roof looks out at the Acropolis, I can’t believe we are walking over the same foot steps as Themistocles, Aristotle and others. There is art, music and dance in the streets and squares – Greeks seem casual, enjoy life as it is and are shocking drivers or is that they are good drivers but have a complete disregard for the rules. I can relate to their parking, it’s a space you place a vehicle and it really doesn’t matter how the vehicle aligns to the footpath as the goal / priority is just about making the vehicle fit in that space.

Being a birdo I have already spotted a great variety of species and have set the task to ID them all before we leave Athens. Some have great calls and the swifts soar overhead in great numbers just like our Needletails back home.

The hotel has some great art on one side of the building. There is also plenty of graffiti and strange enough it looks the same as the graffiti we see in Brisbane, it’s all in Greek.

Watching the sun set on the Acropolis, that is a must see. Seems the city is getting busier as the night approaches. Jet lag has taken its toll one Greek Red wine was about enough and a Vodka apple juice and cinnamon (called “apple pie ) compliments of bar owner finished the day off nicely.
