Kimberley 2013 – day 37

We get up early before sunrise and at 2.7 degrees celsius to take photos of the painted desert. The camera does not do justice to the ranges you just have to see them. : )

Some wildflowers are out, a short affair given they had 50 – 60mm of rain 3 weeks ago.

We head back to the station for breakfast and then move on.

We stop along the way to look at some of the remaining Old Ghan Railway line infrastructure, the Algebuckina bridge is an impressive structure.

We also stop along the way to check out the local wildlife and smell the flowers, which blanket much of the land along the track. The Eremophila is a stunning plant when in flower.

We stop at William Creek hotel for lunch and fuel. The hats, bras and undies that once adorned the ceiling (2009) have now gone, only writings and business cards. They even serve vegetarian pasties, what’s happening to the world : )

We pass Lake William, we are at 0m elevation and there is water in the lake.

The mound springs at Wabma Kardarbu and Coward Springs are like all mound springs fascinating. The ruins at Beresford are in good condition also worth visiting.

We pass the Southern end of Lake Eyre and as we were told in Mt Dare it had water, about 20% of its surface area due to rain 3 weeks ago. We are at -18m elevation.

Sometimes we saw things in the desert that we leave to photos to explain what we saw.

We finally reach Maree deciding to stay in the hotel. A walk around town to look at the old railway station then get ready for a pub dinner : )
