Kimberley 2013 – day 2

Breakfast with friends at Longreach off to Winton this morning to have tea and scones with dinosaurs.

One fossil visits a very old fossil. The Australian Age of Dinosaurs is a great place to visit. Working laboratory and interpretative centre. Having lunch in Winton then off to Diamantina National Park so likely off air until we reach Alice Springs.

Once we turned off Winton – Boulia Road we saw no one for about 250km. We followed the Diamantina River, crossing Gibber country, clay pans, Jump Ups and channel country. Wildlife all the way. Sometimes we couldn’t tell the road from the sourrounding countryside! Stopped at the ranger station for a look at the old Diamantina Station then dodged Bustards, Ardeotis australis all the way to our campsite at Hunter Gorge on the river. A Long day. Sunset was amazing. Watching the moon rising over the Diamantina.
