Kimberley 2013 – day 1

On the road by 4.30am. Chose to take the Burnett Highway so we avoided the endless road works and mining vehicles on the Eastern Maranoa (Warrego Highway). Plenty of water and grassland about. Vegetated landscapes and wildlife are somewhat better than miles of suburbs and traffic : )

Eidsvold, flood damage is unbelievable, the volume of water and height must have been terrifying. Hectares of commercial forest knocked down.

The Burnett River at Gayndah had stripped almost every tree of its bank.

Past several coal trains along the Capricorn Highway, 100 carriages long, 2 diesels at the front and 1 in the middle.

After a long run we stopped at a friends place in Longreach. The last couple of hours spent in dark dodging Roos both dead and alive.
