28 Day

28 Day – Windjana Gorge

Left Slient Grove and travelled across the Leopold Range. Passed rock formation that looked like silhouette of Queen Victoria.

Travelled onto Windjana Gorge to set up camp and then drove onto Tunnel Creek

Tunnel Creek is exactly as it sounds, 750m of creek that travels underground through the ancient Devonian Reef with a break half way. With torches in hand we walked across sand and through water underground in the dark. The story surrounding Tunnel Creek a worthy read and sad part of our history,

Sunset at Windjana a memorable conclusion to the final stretch of our Gibb River road travels. Rocks blazed red as the sunset, lighting up the sand with an orange glow. Freshwater crocodiles abound in this Gorge, seem to ignore us as we pass them close by on the sandy beach. No swimming here. The rock formations are massive black and red spires with numerous crevices and caverns that rise from the sandy shores of the well watered gorge.
