Drove down to Gregory River. Looks tamer during the day than at night. Don’t drive at night is the rule now.
Had a look at Riversleigh World Heritage Fossil site. Fascinating place. Remnants of rainforest species preserved in limestone. crocodiles, turtles and huge birds.
Onto Lawn Hill. Warm and dry. Decided we paddle down the Gorge to keep cool. Beautiful place, red cliffs, river vegetation, plenty of Wildlife. Whistling Kites, Bee-eaters, Darters, Channel-billed Cuckoos, Crimson Finches, Peaceful Dove, White-browed Wren ( race cerviniventris) freshwater crocodiles and heaps of fish. Seen some pretty colorful rainbowfish.
Went swimming, well fell in. Was watching too intently Archer fish knocking insects off over hanging vegetation with squirts of water. Water is cold, not as cold as showers though.
Now sipping Red wine and enjoying snacks as sun sets over Gorge.
