NSW – VIC – SA – QLD – Quorn to Ceduna (Fowlers Bay)

We left Quorn after a quick look around town, the town hall and many other town buildings are elegant. We have morning tea at the Quandong Cafe and then travel down the Pitchi Richi pass making for a picturesque drive down to Port Augusta located at the top of Spencers Gulf. We refuelled, diesel is down to $1.899 so there are less tears now.

It was onto Nuttbush Retreat Caravan Park, part of Pandurra Station. We stayed the night in the shearer’s quarter’s, great facilities, very clean and dinner was a good station meal shared with fellow travellers who were great company, experience and information exchange from a diverse bunch of people each from interesting walks of life made for plenty of laughs. You can have a look around the station and there is plenty of interesting items to look at if old farm equipment and structures are of interest to you.

We are heading west again and there are paddocks of canola creating a sea of bright yellow, quite stunning. Beautiful other crops are green as far as you can see. Kimba is our morning tea stop, it gives us a chance to look at the Silo art. We stopped at Wirulla for some lunch, and had a chat with one of the locals at the general store they agree the country has never look so good. Ceduna is our stop for the night. The towns folk are friendly and helpful, we had a few business things and some minor repairs to deal with and folk made it easy to finalise successfully all matters. Dinner was at the bistro at the Foreshore Hotel, again super friendly staff. The sunset is beautiful.

Next day we are off to Fowlers Bay to watch Southern Right whales, there are said to be 11 in the bay and we are not disappointed. Fowlers Bay is a beautiful spot even when there are no whales. There is a boat tour that will take you out whale watching if you want to. The jetty is a good spot to see the whales up close. We watch an osprey dive into the water and catch a fish, Sooty Oyster Catchers and Terns also about. We then head back east to Ceduna taking pictures of flowering shrubs, one particular one is very showy we think its Templetonia retusa, Cocky’s Tongue. We refuel at Ceduna, then we are going north up the Googs track. Fuel is $1.989.
