Gympie and local countryside – day 2

After a very late start we head off from South Gympie and drop into Widgee to look at Widgee Creek free camp site, it’s fairly sodden after recent rain but the landscape is green and fresh.

We make our way to Glastonbury Creek campground through the state forest, the trip is short but the scenery is kind to the eyes. The creeks are flowing and birdlife is prolific. Grey-shrike thrush, butcher birds, little friar birds, magpies, koels, pheasant coucals and eastern whipbirds and many other of the great singers and chatterers are here.

We enjoy a warm cooked meal around the campfire, the high moon and Venus are bright in the clear night sky. Boobook owls are calling.
