We are woken by a chorus of birds, all manner of Parrot, Galahs, Quarrion (Cockatiel), Budgerigar, Magpies and Honey Eater and a setting moon.
After breakfast we travel to Barcaldine and fuel up at an auto fuel depot. Then onto Longreach. We spend time at the Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame and The Qantas Founders Museum, places you can visit time and time again and still learn something new about indigenous people and early Australians history.
We take a tour on a paddle boat on the Thomson River, an informative narrative, drinks and nibbles and a setting sun make for a nice trip.
Then an Australian stockman night show on the banks of the Thomson River. The humour is very Australian, a quality sometimes lost with today’s Ps&Qs. No harm intended just fun and jokes from an era rapidly disappearing. The country folk are very appreciative of tourists it’s keeping their town alive. We learn about some interesting characters and Australian propensity to dislike bureaucracy for the sake of bureaucracy.
