Newhaven

Today we travelled around Newhaven. The property was a former cattle station for 40 years, it’s the country of the Ngaliya Warlpiri People. Purchased in 2000 by Birds Australia and in 2001 partnered by Australian Wildlife Conservancy who manage the property. It’s 262,000ha in size.

The campsite is exceptional. The modern pit toilet, hot/cold shower, fire pit with timber provided and water. One of the best run and cleanest Bush camps we have seen.

In the morning we climbed Eremaea’s lookout then drove to Lake Bennett, a sacred site to local  indigenous people who call it Yunkanjini. It’s a large salt lake. We explore the areas that runoff into the lake and even in this desert environment you can find water, though salty in this case.

For more about Newhaven go to Newhaven. You have to book to get into the campsite.
