It’s an early start. We leave White Cliffs and head to Wilcannia for coffee and look at the Darling River. Seems dry weather and cotton farmers are taking their toll on the River. Aboriginal history and lives are on display along the river bank. Even in 1985 there was extensive prejudice against these people. Wilcannia has its problems but there is an effort to show the more positive aspects of this town. We head onto Menindee. 100’s of hectares of dead vineyards, starved of water, extraction upstream certainly not helping. Weather has gone grey and cold. On fuelling the tank develops an air lock, which requires us to divert from course and head North to Broken Hill. All can be fixed it’s a known issue so we will head to Adelaide Hills tomorrow to fix it. Fortuitous in some ways as the weather has turned wet and cold in the South and we headed North to now clear skies.
